Modern technologies for growing asparagus and strawberries were presented by Sander Koenen, co-owner of the nursery and production company Thwan van Gennip Plants B.V. (the Netherlands).
The speaker shared practical experience and discussed the selection of high-quality planting material, ways to increase yield and crop quality, as well as solutions for optimising production processes and adapting to today’s challenges.
Decoplant: Nursery Production and Cooperation with Dutch Breeders
Serhii Bezkostyi, General Director of Decoplant, spoke about the company’s participation in the exhibition, its cooperation with a Dutch breeding partner, and shared his assessment of the conference organisation.
He said that at the exhibition, the Ukrainian-Dutch company was presenting its nursery and a wide range of crops, including berry and fruit crops, particularly strawberry plants and other promising varieties. He noted that raspberries, especially everbearing varieties, were currently in the highest demand among farmers. However, the company’s raspberry plants for the season had already been completely sold out, so customers were being directed to the following year.
Bezkostyi added that this was not the first conference organised by Technologies and Innovations Media Group that the company had attended, which allowed it to assess both the organisation and the overall atmosphere. According to him, such events consistently attracted a sufficient number of visitors, a professional audience and strong interest from participants. He emphasised that it was important for the company to be part of such a professional environment, exchange experience, and present its products and solutions. For this reason, Decoplant intended to continue participating in these events.
From Soil to Harvest
Among the conference speakers was Hanna Lutsko, an international berry production expert, who shared practical experience in interpreting soil agrochemical analyses. She explained how modern approaches to assessing soil condition can help producers make precise technological decisions and improve the productivity of berry plantations.
Bartłomiej Danek, Director of NIWA hodowla roślin jagodowych (Poland), spoke about the specific requirements for growing raspberries intended for mechanical harvesting. He examined which varietal characteristics and berry properties are crucial for effective mechanisation, as well as how agronomic practices and cultivation technologies affect the suitability of plantations for machine harvesting.
Particular attention was paid to practical experience, cultivar selection, and approaches that make it possible to combine high yields, product quality and efficient mechanical harvesting.
Agro Terra A Farm in the Lviv region grows a wide range of berry and vegetable crops. Andrii Barchuk, the farm’s director, spoke about the specifics of the operation, the results of the season and product sales.
Barchuk said that the farm’s main berry crop was the garden strawberry. Among vegetables, it grew white cabbage and young cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, block peppers and Kapia peppers, sweet corn and new potatoes. The total area under vegetables and strawberries was about 10 hectares, with 3 hectares occupied by strawberries and another 7 hectares by vegetable crops.
He noted that the farm grew KDS and short-day strawberry varieties, including Rumba, Sibylla, Brilla, Cadenza, Federica and Faith. All the crops were grown outdoors. The farm worked together with agronomists and followed crop-specific production protocols, carrying out the necessary crop protection measures against diseases and pests.
According to Barchuk, most of the farm’s produce was sold on local markets. Strawberries and vegetables were harvested by hand, and the work was organised so that the produce was harvested in the morning and sold on the same day.
He assessed the vegetable season positively overall. The berry sector had been more challenging because spring frosts had significantly damaged the flowers, resulting in a smaller-than-expected strawberry harvest.
Barchuk also said that the farm had been attending conferences organised by Technologies and Innovations Media Group since 2021. Although fewer familiar faces had been present that year, the participants had met many new people whom they had not encountered before. He considered this valuable because the conference provided an opportunity to continuously expand their professional network. Overall, he described the conference as very interesting and said that the farm was pleased with its participation.
Serhii Parashchenko, founder and breeder of Chystyi Produkt LLC, shared his experience of scaling up garlic production and discussed the results of this year’s season.
Parashchenko said that the company had been growing garlic and producing planting material for more than 20 years. At that time, it had 125 hectares of production land. This year, the company had doubled its production volumes compared with the previous season and achieved a record harvest of single-clove garlic of the ‘Iren’ variety, amounting to around 200 tonnes.
He noted that the company’s main varieties in production were ‘Liubasha’ and ‘Iren’. One of the farm’s key advantages, he said, was its many years of experience and the cultivation technologies it had developed for garlic production.
Parashchenko considered garlic a promising crop because it could be stored and sold over a long period and was less dependent on seasonality than berries.
Regarding the conference, he said that it had once again been very well attended. In his view, a larger venue could even have been used to accommodate all the participants and exhibitors. He added that he was satisfied with the organisation.
Protected Cultivation and Precision Irrigation
Leszek Sawicki, founder of Progress (Poland), shared his experience of investing in protected cultivation and discussed which solutions currently offer the greatest efficiency and profitability.
The speaker explained how climate change is altering approaches to berry and vegetable production, when investments in tunnels, greenhouses and protective structures are economically justified, and which modern technologies offer the best return on investment.
The presentation covered season extension, increasing yields and product quality, protection against heat, heavy rainfall, hail, wind and spring frosts, practical experience of Polish growers, effective solutions and common mistakes, as well as technologies that could become standard practice in berry and vegetable production in the coming years.
During their presentation, Vladyslav Razkevych, co-owner of EVKALIPT P and Valerii Liashynskyi, Head of the Greenhouse Division at EVKALIPT P discussed irrigation under changing climatic conditions and how to ensure stable yields and high production efficiency.
Valerii Liashynskyi explained that precision irrigation using specialised equipment and a monitoring system made it possible to determine clearly when and how much water plants needed. He added that these solutions allowed water delivery to be controlled at every stage, from the reservoir to the root system. According to him, precision irrigation involved delivering water directly to the depth at which the root system was located.

She focused on practical approaches that help optimise production processes and improve the performance of berry farms.
During the conference, Mariia Kukh, Product Manager at BINFIELD, spoke about modern technologies for growing berries and fruit and presented the company’s solutions for crop nutrition and protection against stress factors.
“Today we are attending a wonderful conference that has brought together people who are deeply passionate about fruit and berries. In the Ukrainian market, BINFIELD offers comprehensive solutions for crop nutrition. Our portfolio includes NPK fertilisers, as well as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus fertilisers.
We have participated in this event several times, and every year it changes — first and foremost because of the people. It is great to see the conference attracting new participants, including both company representatives and berry and vegetable growers themselves.
This is particularly encouraging because today growers are no longer simply producing crops without a clear strategy. They are seeking new knowledge and technologies to unlock the full genetic potential of the crops they grow.”
